It’s also changing thanks to exceptional employees like Amritha, whose innovative work inspires the rest of us.
When Amritha, Senior Software Engineer at Ensocare, was entering the tech field, the subject of female representation in the tech world wasn’t on her radar. To be fair, neither were computers. As she explains it, this burgeoning technology was still a novelty in her home country of India. And because computers hadn’t reached the critical mass they enjoy today, she also didn’t have any preconceived notions about the types of roles she was expected to fit into.
“I had no idea about computers,” said Amritha. “I grew up in India in a village where nobody knew anything about computers, so when I was trying to apply for college, my cousin happened to suggest that maybe you should try engineering. So that’s what I did.”
She recalls her cousin telling her that this field was “this new happening thing.” Clearly, she was on to something.
The Perfect Fit
Amritha acknowledges that, in hindsight, coding and software engineering were definitely the right move for what she was looking for in a position.
“It fit my personality perfectly well,” she said. “You can quietly work and, when you really need to focus, nobody bothers you. My favorite part of what I do is coding mostly. You get in the zone and once you get in that process it’s like everything starts to click.”
Amritha said that a place like Ensocare is the right fit because she’s encouraged to take time within her busy day to enjoy activities centered around wellness. That’s a great change of pace from the coding environment and brings balance to her daily routine.
“I go work out every lunch time, you can’t do that at other companies. That’s a huge perk. When it’s right there and super convenient, they do a really good job making sure everyone’s happy.”
As a part of the CQuence Health Group family of companies, Ensocare offers a number of unique benefits that place focus on health in mind, body and spirit. Amritha appreciates the collegial environment and feels that Ensocare is just the right size for a company: small enough to be attentive to an employee’s needs and for everyone to get to know each other, yet large enough to offer great benefits that wouldn’t be possible at a brand new startup.
“I love working with everyone here. This is a collaborative environment where people help each other. If there’s a project that we’re working on, everyone on the team puts forward their best ideas and we’re able to tackle any challenges that arise. We work together so well, and there are so many other benefits too.”
Engineering may have been something that Amritha started almost by happenstance, but once she entered the industry, she pursued her career with true passion. She wants anyone, but particularly young women, to understand that the best way to get into this field is just to go for it.
“I’ve seen Girls Who Code and stuff like that,” she said. “I never had something like that in India, but I still caught on in the field. You really should just give it a try if it’s something you think you’d be good at. If you try it, and if you like it, you know you’re in the right place. This is a challenging field, but really nothing is difficult once you try it and you like it. Then it’s just a matter of time. You’ll learn it and you’ll be great at it.”
Amritha continues to do excellent work at Ensocare, and as the company grows, we can’t wait to welcome even more exciting voices to the team.
